English 1st and 3rd hour - Students are improving their reading and writing skills using the Read Naturally reading program.  3 days per week students are working to improve fluency, vocabulary, and identifying main ideas in fiction and non-fiction passages. Students must then write a "retell" of what the piece was about while using appropriate sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

In February we will begin "To Kill a Mockingbird." Students will keep a journal regarding details, themes, setting, and plot to promote their understanding of the novel.  A major project will be completed by the students at the end of the novel. Assignments will also be given to students as we progress through the classic novel by Harper Lee.

Students also reponsible for writing in their journal EVERY DAY !!!!  New and exciting topics given each day! On Fridays the students may write on topic of their choice.

 

Science - 2nd hour - Emphasis on Earth Science

We continue our study of Earth Science. Our next chapters deal with groundwater, glaciers, wind, and erosion and Students will be practicing high yield strategy for comprehension and retention of material by practicing notetaking skills along with class discussion and lecture of main ideas and vocabulary.

 

Math - Basic Math - Students will be assigned lessons on appropriate levels of basic and fuctional concepts to complete for the week using the Saxon Math Series.
