The Genesee Area Skill Center, located onTorrey Road, just south of Maple Road, has a wide variety of hands-on classes that have a strong empahsis on career and technical educational skills. These classes are taught during three different time periods called sessions. The first session begins at 7:00 am
and ends at 9:20 am. The second session begins at 9:25 am and ends at 11:50 am. The third session begins at 11:50 am and ends at 2:10 pm. Transportation to and from the skill center is provided by school bus from the home school.
Students attending the first session can earn 14 credits for the year. They receive three credits each semester from the skill center and can take 4 credits each semester at Beecher. Second and third session students receive the normal 12 credits for the year.
Students in the 10th and 11th grades can apply for admittance to the Skill Center in February by seeing their guidance counselor. Cosmetology is available only to next year's seniors. On Tuesday, February 9th there will be a orientation at Beecher High in the media center at 12:10 pm for all those 10th and 11th grade students interested in possibly attending the Skill Center for next year.
