Judge Herman Marable's Student of the Month/Year Award
Purpose: To encourage Flint area high school students to focus on academic achievement and career goals.
Requirements: 10th graders who are enrolled in good standing who attend public, charter or private schools
in Flint and Genesee. A 500 word essay exploring their career goals will be required.
Deadline: Applications must be postmarked or returned by the 27th of the month.
Awards: For monthly awards, winner will receive a trophy, framed certificate of recognition and a
$75.00 U.S. Savings Bond. For yearly awards, winner will a receive a $500.00 U.S. Savings
Bond.
Resource Genesee's 2010 Youth Leadership Genesee Program
Purpose: Learn about community issues, meat with leaders from the community and develop their
leadership skills
Requirements: mandatory attendance at the Team Building session, attendance at least 75% of the
sessions (including 2 out of 3 volunteer project work days and 2 out of 3 general days).
Deadline: February 4, 2010
Cost: $50.00 (non-refundable) - Due by February 27, 2010.
Marie Manley and Howard Staisil Scholarships
Purpose: To receive a one-time award of $500.00
Requirements: Must be graduating senior or in college, must have participated in the Flint Olympian and
CANUSA Games during high school, must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must submit a
scholarship application.
Deadline: March 26, 2010
