Beecher Community School District (Beecher High School) would not function properly without the expertise, dedication, and constant presence of our administrative professional: Ms. Trayc Cunningham.
Some of her duties include:
Administrative Assistant to the High School Principal- Mr. Lance Sumpter
Administrative Assistant to the Athletic Director-Mr. Eric Cooper
Co- Chair of BCSD Enrollment Committee
Trayc is the administrative backbone of our school—quietly managing countless moving parts that keep each day running smoothly. From scheduling meetings, calendars, coverage, and events, to providing critical student support, she ensures students feel safe, seen, and supported. Trayc is often the first point of contact for families, offering parent assistance, answering urgent questions, solving problems, and calming concerns with professionalism and care.
Beyond what is visible, Trayc handles the unnoticed administrative duties that many never see—managing confidential information, coordinating communication, responding to last‑minute emergencies, tracking documentation, supporting school leadership, and ensuring compliance and follow‑through. These behind‑the‑scenes responsibilities are essential, and without them, instruction, operations, and family engagement would be interrupted .
Simply put, our schools cannot run without the consistency, trust, and excellence Trayc provides every single day.
Trayc participated in an interview and her responses are below
1. What inspired you to work in education, and what led you to your current role at BHS?
My journey in education began in 1991 when I became a parent volunteer with the Beecher Head Start Program. As a proud Beecher graduate, I have always had a strong desire to give back to the community that helped shape who I am today What initially motivated me was simply wanting to be an involved and present parent in my child’s education.
That involvement opened doors I never expected. Volunteering led to opportunities to substitute within the Head Start program, where I discovered a passion for supporting students, families, and staff. Along the way, a teacher recognized my commitment and encouraged me to enroll in college—an act of belief that truly changed my life. That encouragement, paired with my dedication to Beecher, ultimately guided me into the role I am honored to serve in today.
2.Describe a typical day in your role—what are some responsibilities people may not realize are part of your job?
BUSY!! I call substitutes, cover classrooms, and anywhere else I'm needed. I'm supposed to be at work at 7:30am , but I start my day at 6:00am to get a head start. Somedays I am a nurse, counselor, social worker and just a mom to the students.
3. How do you support school leaders, teachers, and students during busy or challenging times?
Maintaining organization, covering Mr. Sumpter by taking a lot off his plate such as, Thinking ahead. securing lessons, attendance. I also make sure students are feed everyday and most importantly letting them know they are loved (as she tears up).
4 What skills or personal qualities do you think are most important for success in an administrative role?
Leaders have to be strong, have passion for the job and have tough skin. People think that being a secretary is just typing, but there is more than that.
5. What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming an administrative professional in education?
Again as she tears up, Being ready to love students that I can't take home. No matter what their behavior I will always let them know I love them. Basically, I'm their other mom/caregiver.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Trayc Cunningham

Student Voices. Real Impact. Powerful Learning.
The Beecher Community School District SmartLab recently took center stage as 12th grade students led a dynamic, student‑driven presentation sharing how the SmartLab has truly transformed their learning experiences—and their lives at Beecher High School.
Students enthusiastically expressed that the SmartLab is a place they love to be. Unlike traditional classrooms, the SmartLab ignites curiosity and creativity through hands‑on learning, teamwork, and real‑world problem solving. “It’s not boring,” students shared—it’s engaging, collaborative, and fun. " I love being in the smart lab and it makes learning fun".
Through career‑connected Project‑Based Learning (PBL) and innovative STEAM experiences, students are actively building skills that matter: communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and confidence. The SmartLab allows them to move, create, explore, and learn by doing—preparing them not only for graduation, but for life beyond Beecher.
The student presenters had the honor of sharing their journey and growth with Mr. Rizik, a valued contributor and financial benefactor whose support continues to expand opportunities for Beecher students, and Shawn H. Wilson, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Michigan, whose presence reinforced the importance of community partnerships and student voice.
This powerful moment highlighted what happens when students are empowered, innovation is prioritized, and community leaders believe in education. The Beecher SmartLab is more than a space—it’s a launchpad for future success.
We are proud of our students for leading with confidence, passion, and purpose.

Recognizing Distinguished Leadership at Dailey Elementary
Beecher Community School District formally recognizes Ms. Debbie Harris, Parent Liaison at Dailey Elementary School (BCSD) for her exemplary leadership in developing and leading Grandparents and Grandfriends Day—a distinctive event proudly hosted only at Dailey Elementary. Mrs. Harris envisioned this initiative as an opportunity to honor grandparents and grandfriends as valued supporters of student success, broadening family engagement beyond traditional mother- and father-focused events.
Through purposeful planning, the event fostered meaningful intergenerational connections that promote wisdom, engagement, and a sense of belonging for students and families alike. The strong attendance, wonderful food, and community participation reflected the positive impact of Mrs. Harris’s efforts to include all family members, including “grandfriends” when grandparents were unavailable. Her leadership continues to strengthen school–community partnerships, and her vision for future growth—including expanded student involvement and a potential full-day experience—demonstrates her ongoing commitment to inclusive, family‑centered programming.
